Elementary School ProgramThe Montessori elementary program, approved by the Nebraska Department of Education, offers children in grades 1st through 6th educational advantages not found in traditional programs. Integrated studies provide students with unique and age-appropriate materials that help them to become accountable for their use of time, for accuracy in their work and to evaluate their strengths and areas of growth. Our students have individualized work plans to allow them to use time effectively and to make appropriate choices.
The elementary program provides a full expression of the Montessori principles in a truly integrated curriculum. By building on the basic skills acquired in the primary program, the elementary child now moves from the concrete to abstract reasoning. The curriculum follows the essential elements as mandated by the state in language arts, history, mathematics, the sciences, practical living and the arts. Each subject area begins with a broad overview after which specific details are researched and added, creating greater depth and understanding. It enables students to connect and relate content information more effectively within and across disciplines. Materials and presentations are designed to stimulate the imagination while developing the mastery of essential learning skills. The hallmark of the elementary program focuses on critical thinking, problem solving, self-confidence and a strong foundation in mathematics, reading and the sciences in a non-stressful environment. Students demonstrate great joy in their learning.
